I want to work on the development of community. Your average punter needs to live close to work, and they choose to live in the growth areas because their families live around them. They don’t want to commute from Richmond to work at Somerton, do they? Or live in an 8-storey apartment with a couple of kids!
The planners forget about the quadruple bottom line; the fourth element is developing and sustaining both a sense and the reality of community. The future for urban fringe landowners is to be involved in the planning process, and not to drive urban sprawl. It’s crucial to establish project viability established before you start designing. Our role is about development facilitation, and about being aware of the intent of government regarding community development.
